Visual Communications Emphasis

It has become visually clear to me that I have a style that consistently intertwines through all my work. My style can be defined as unique self- made textures, complex and organic shapes, and linear illusions. My process relates to composition, building concepts, and creating a message.

Several artists that have influenced and inspired my work are Eric Carle, Julius Shulman, and Milton Glaser. Eric Carle’s unique process relates to how I execute my interpretation of collage through cut paper and paint. Julius Shulman not only has an eye for crisp lines and sharp detail, but an appreciation for architecture that reflects in his work, which I admire and serves as a muse in my photography. Milton Glaser’s work has simplistic value that inherits meaning, is very versatile and his approach to graphic design is fascinating from his beginning when he was apart of Push Pin Studios, to his present day works. Milton has such an outstanding process on how he solves design problems. These artists have strong ideals and strive for success in the business, but at the same time they do this art for the love of design.

I aspire to remain inspired through my artwork by graphic artists that have come before me and pre- determined the design principles we continue to use today to solve design problems whether it be typography, illustration, or even photography. Moving forward,I continue to strengthen my skills as a designer and have become passionately driven for the study of graphic design through Weber State’s Visual Communications Department. As a designer, I persevere to be versatile not only in mixed mediums, but the aspect of creating a design solution. I realize that with hard work a successful future in design will be possible. As I proceed to develop/strengthen my “artist tool belt”, my art becomes my voice, communicates who I am and who I am as a designer.
